May Book Club: Funny Ladies

Even though April showers are supposed to bring May flowers, so far this May it’s been nothing but rain. So this month, my book recommendations for Book Club are easy reads for a rainy day – all written by my favorite funny ladies.

So curl up under a blanket in your favorite cozy chair with one of the following books and begin to laugh the rainy weather away.

  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? Mindy Kaling is one of those celebrities real people can relate to. She’s hilarious and even though this is an older book, I loved reading about her pre-famous past.
  • The Last Black Unicorn. No one makes me laugh quite as much as Tiffany Haddish. Watch this interview and you’ll be convinced to add this book to your list of must-read material.
  • Scrappy Little Nobody. Following Anna Kendrick on Twitter is a must. Being funny in 120 characters or less is hard, so if someone can do that successfully, they can definitely fill a book with razor-sharp wit you won’t want to miss.
  • Talking As Fast As I Can. Lorelai Gilmore is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. In her book, Lauren Graham makes me an even bigger fan. She writes like she talks and it’s the absolute best. I want to be her friend in real life.

Are there others I’m missing? Let me know what you think if you pick one of the suggested reads for your own book club!

RIP Little Blue Kate Spade Purse

A super depressing thing happened this morning. My favorite little, blue Kate Spade purse has broken…

We had so many great times together. Fun nights out…

Weddings…

I cant believe I ever put her on the ground 🤦🏼‍♀️

Fun days out…

Concerts…

Trips to California, Vegas and Nashville…

Holidays like Halloween, New Year’s Eve, Unicorn Frappuccino Day and Cinco de Mayo…

i

Tailgating…

I guess I’m coping OK. I just don’t know how I’ll find another purse this perfect 😩

Send recommendations please…

Current country music hot takes

I love country music! And I have some hot takes to share on the current state of country music…

I love country music! And I have some hot takes to share on the current state of my favorite music genre…

1. I need old Luke Bryan back. His first album was amazing! It was so good it made me fall in love with him. His new songs are about lighting up cell phones and how people are good, and they’re lame. Bring back old Luke!

2. “Take a Drunk Girl Home” is the worst song on the radio right now. In any genre. When he says Pick up her life she threw on the floor, I get so annoyed. Just because a girl is out getting drunk, doesn’t mean she threw her life on the floor. Another set of lyrics say:

She’s bouncing like a pinball
Singing every word she never knew
Dancing with her eyes closed like she’s the only one in the room

That sounds like a great night to me, and if you tried to stop me and take me home, I’d be so pissed. I wish the song was called “Leave a Drunk Girl Alone.”

3. Jake Owen is really underrated and needs to be played more. In my opinion, he’s better than Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt. At Country Fest this summer, Brantley Gilbert is headlining, but Jake Owen is an opener. I don’t get it. Also, have I mentioned he’s super hot?

4. The Kane Brown song “Heaven” is stupid. I’ve never heard someone “talk about heaven like they just can’t wait to go.” And the worst part is that it’s super catchy so I get it stuck in my head.

5. Carrie Underwood’s face looks the same, and they made way too big of a deal about it on the ACM Awards last month. She’s flawless and beautiful, and it feels super awkward that they keep talking about how brave she is for showing her face.

I’m really sassy about everything in those first five hot takes. So here are some positive takes 🙂

6.The new Dierk’s song on the radio makes me feel all the happiness.

7. Kelsea Ballerini’s new song, I hate love songs, is so good. I haven’t been a huge fan of hers since she started, but I’m liking her more and more after every song she puts out. She’s also adorable.

8. Keith Urban’s song “Wasted Time” is like a year old but still makes me want to party the second it comes on the radio.

So do you agree with me? Disagree? Have any other hot takes you want to share?

My favorite people to follow on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter

Like most 30-somethings, I’m obsessed with social media – especially Instagram and Instagram stories lately. I find myself watching stories for way too long before I get out of bed in the morning, in the middle of the night, while waiting in line for coffee. I can’t stop. Here’s who you should be following!

Here are some of my favorite people to follow…

1. @emilyschuman at Cupcakes and Cashmere

cupcakes

Emily is the founder of Cupcakes & Cashmere, an adorable lifestyle blog that I’ve been obsessed with for a couple of years. She posts about fashion, food, beauty and more. There is even a Cupcakes & Cashmere shop. It’s a little on the pricey side, but I’m sure I’ll cave and buy something eventually. The earrings she’s wearing in her insta-stories are always absolutely beautiful and sold in the shop so I’m guessing that’ll be what I buy first…

2. Chrissy Teigen

If you don’t know that Chrissy Theigen is a must-follow celeb on twitter by now, then you must be living under a rock. She’s hilarious and always interacting with her followers (see example above). From her cooking on her Insta-stories to her witty banter on Twitter, she’s sure to entertain you on any social media platform.

3. @busyphilipps

So I really only watched Busy Philipps on Cougar Town (I know…), but I somehow ended up following her on Instagram, and I’m not mad about it. I have this same conversation with friends on a weekly basis:

Do you follow Busy Philipps on Instagram?

YES! She posts things that I would never imagine posting about myself.

Right? I love her.

She shares real life things like sweaty workouts, skin problems and days drunk on vacation. But then you also get to see her getting ready for fancy events and hanging out on the red carpet. I might have to go watch all of Dawson’s Creek on Netflix now…

4. Ali at @Inspiralized

Ali is the inventor of the spiralizer, a super cool tool that turns zucchini and other veggies into noodles for easy meal prep. She has a couple different instagram accounts: alissandrab, inspiralized and inspiralizedkids. All of them have great healthy eating and lifestyle content. She has a little boy only a month younger than Baby B, so I love being able to follow along what she’s going through at the same time as me.

5. bravoandy

When I started writing this post, RC recommended that I add Andy Cohen. I don’t watch Bravo so I thought “nah.” But then followed him, and he’s great. Super funny! Even if you don’t watch Bravo shows, he’s worth a follow.

6. @catandnat

catnat

Cat & Nat are moms who started an online community of moms who go live on Facebook daily to rant and joke about their lives as moms. As they say on their website, they dismantle the unrealistic portrayals of motherhood that are often presented throughout social and traditional media. And they are so funny, you guys. If you’re a mom (or even if you aren’t), you have to follow them!

7. @buzzfeed

If you’re anything like me, you spent literally hours every day on Buzzfeed in around 2010-2013. I’ve rediscovered my love for Buzzfeed via Instagram in the last year or so. Go follow them to get a daily dose of laughs in your feed.

8. Ria and Fran at @chicksintheoffice

My brother got me hooked on Bar Stool Sports in the past year. A couple months ago they made an amazing choice and gave Chicks in the Office their own show. While I don’t get to listen to it that often, I need too more because I love their Instagram videos on pop culture news. I feel like they’re my besties.

9. Gina Homolka at @skinnytaste

Skinny

I’ve been using SkinnyTaste as my go-to for meal prep for years. Gina’s recipes are delicious and healthy. I love following her on Facebook and Instagram. Her Instagram stories are always a fun look into her personal life, as well as her cooking.

10. @vancityreynolds

He’s hot and funny. What’s there not to love?

Who else should I be following? Anyone on this list you love? Or hate?
