Sarah’s Favorite Things: Part II

Time for another installment of Sarah’s favorite things…

Crock Pots: There are so many delicious things that can be made in a crock pot. Throw chicken in before work with some salsa, tomatoes and peppers, and you have chicken tacos when you get home from work. Or take a pork loin and add some barbecue sauce, and pulled pork sandwiches are ready as soon as you step in the door. Also, how good does your apartment/house smells after having the crock pot going all day!

Screen Shot 2013-02-15 at 12.32.17 PMT.V.: TV is so good right now, you guys.

Some of my favorites are Carrie Dairies, Pretty Little Liars, Modern Family, Lying Game, Criminal Minds, Nashville, Revenge, The Mindy Project, Scandal and New Girl.

That doesn’t even include the shows I want to start from episode 1: Parenthood, Parks & Rec, Girls, Homeland and Mad Men.

Someone get me a life. Fast.

Brunch: There’s really nothing better than brunch. Here’s a list of my top 4 brunch spots in Uptown Minneapolis –

  • Uptown Diner: If you don’t care about missing out on Bloody Marys or Screw Drivers, this is definitely the place to be. My favorites include the Caprese Benedict or Gyro Omelet.
  • Lyndale Tap House: Free mimosa with any breakfast!
  • Gigi’s Cafe: The outdoor seating is the perfect atmosphere for summer brunch. Try the iced tea with quiche or a breakfast sandwich.
  • Bar Abeline: I feel like I can’t even really call it one of my favorites because I’ve only gone twice, but they have $3 bottomless mimosas from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.!

Websites like #myfriendsaremarried, #howdoiputthisgently, #whatshouldwecallme: If you haven’t heard of these before, you’ve been living under a rock. Check them out.

ZZ Ward: I love her. Her music is amazing, and I can’t stop listening to it.

Vodka: That’s right. I still love Vodka. Try this recipe we shared last week.

Game Day Recipes

The biggest game day of the year is coming up tomorrow: The Super Bowl. Although our beloved Packers are not playing, we’ll still be celebrating by eating delicious food, drinking too much, heckling Vikings fans, laughing at commercials and counting down until the real action happens: The Beyonce Half-Time Show.

Here are some of our favorite, game-day recipes:

Vodka Diet Coke
1 part Vodka
2 parts Diet Coke
Add a slice of lime if you’re feeling fancy
Good old vodka diet will make you the life of any Super Bowl Party.

Vodka Cranberry
2 oz. Vodka
Diet Cranberry Juice
Again, add a slice of lime if you’re feeling fancy
This low-cal, fruity drink is yummy and the perfect color if you’re supporting the San Fran 49ers.

Grape Apes
1 part UV Grape
1 part lemon-lime soda
*Add a splash of sweet and sour mix
A Grape Ape is a sweet drink, sure to give you gut rot in the morning, but great for showing your purple pride for the Ravens.

If the party you’re attending requires you to bring food, try making Taco Dip.

Not into cooking? Just pick up a bag of chips and salsa from the store on your way over…

Happy Super Bowl Weekend!

Sarah’s Favorite Things: Part 1

My middle name isn’t “I-Love-This-Song” for no reason. When I like something – I get really passionate, mildly-obsessive over it. So I’ve decided to start a series of posts dedicated solely to the many things I hold near and dear to my heart.

Here’s a list of some of today’s obsessions:

1. Vodka Diet Coke with Lime: Obviously.

Vodka Diet

2. Taco Dip: I’ve made this half a dozen times in the past couple months for football games, Christmas Eve and any other occasion that encourages people to eat ridiculously large amounts of food.

Super easy to make. All you need to do is mix 8 oz. of cream cheese, 8 oz. of sour cream and one pack of taco seasoning. Then spread that on a large plate and cover with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, green onions and cheese. Serve with a margarita.

3. SOCK BUNS: Best way to avoid showering in the morning when you’re feeling lazy and need to look nice.

4. Criminal Minds: Derek Morgan, duh.

5. Group Texts: …Because then I’m not the only one judging when I get a text like this on a Sunday afternoon. Looking at you Rachel…
