Happy National Vodka Day!

It’s like Christmas for Vodka lovers – National Vodka Day!

Here are some ideas of how to celebrate:

1. Try out a new vodka drink, like this delicious one.

2. Get a tattoo of the word “Vodka”

3. Go to happy hour after work. Drink lots.

4. Play a fun drinking game like Ring of Fire or the iPod Game.

5. Black Out.

6. Do a taste test between different types of vodka. Be sure to try out a new kind you’ve never had before.

7. Take artsy photos of Vodka bottles, martinis and other delicious vodka drinks and post on your Instagram, Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter. Extra points if your chugging straight from the bottle in the pic.

8. Drink like a 21-year-old.

9. Order a vodka shot when you’re out tonight. Just vodka – nothing extra.

10. Stay out celebrating until at least 5 a.m.

For those of your who love everything awesome – it’s also National Taco Day!

BEST. DAY. EVER.

New Fave Drink: Vodka + Water + Special Ingredient

Vodka diet coke has been my favorite drink since I started drinking. It’s so easy and delicious. However, everyone likes to try out something new every once & awhile.

My new favorite drink: vodka water.

Well not just vodka water, but vodka + water + a squirt of MiO water flavoring

Screen Shot 2013-10-01 at 7.42.43 AM

Why I love this drink:

  1. Water – Since the drink is mostly water, you don’t get as dehydrated when drinking it. It’s the perfect drink for a day-party.
  2. Delicious – It’s so good. So far I’ve had strawberry and mango, and both are really yummy.
  3. Choices – You can change the flavor of a regular drink by adding lemons or limes, but this drink really gives you options.
  4. Low Cal – There are zero cals in MiO and water, so the only cals you’re drinking is from the Vodka.
  5. Gut Rot-Free – After a day of drinking something delicious and fruity like a strawberry daiquiri or cosmo, you probably get a bit of a tummy ache. That totally doesn’t happen with this drink! So awesome.

So try it out! You’ll love it.

Favorite Summer Drink: The Michael Phelps

The Michael Phelps: Weed & Water

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 9.27.24 AM

Named after our favorite rebellious Olympian, the Weed & Water is a combination of Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka and water with a slice of lemon if you’re feeling fancy.

Other similar drinks to try this summer:

  • The John Daly – Combination of lemonade, iced tea and bourbon or lemonade and sweet tea vodka
  • Beer-Tini – Citrus vodka mixed with beer, lemonade and a splash of pineapple juice
  • Strip & Go Naked – Mix 6 cans of beer with 12 oz. of vodka and 12 oz. of lemonade concentrate. It may sound weird, but it’s really good – a great party drink!

What’s your favorite summer drink?

SUMMERTIME! It’s Finally Here…

Each year I seem to have one great weekend – spent mostly outdoors – that just tells me that summer is here. This year I didn’t think it would ever happen, but it finally did!

IMG_2826On Saturday I was in Milwaukee to see Eric Church and Kenny Chesney in concert at Miller Park. Nothing screams summer like country music, drinking outside, tailgating and baseball (stadiums).

We arrived in Milwaukee early on Saturday morning, drank a bunch ‘o Vodka at the hotel and were on our way to Miller Park for tailgating. Lucky for the three of us on the left in this photo, the child on the right is still 20 so we had ourselves a DD all evening.

Tailgating was interesting since we didn’t have a grill, chairs, tables or any actual meal-like food. So we snacked on chips & salsa, chocolate-covered pretzels, veggies & dip and popcorn. Nom Nom. We also played the iPod Game and Ring of Fire – which helped us get nice and drunk before heading into the concert.IMG_2831

Before heading into Miller Park for the concert, A-squared took a quick beer bong to make sure they were sufficiently wasted… They were.

IMG_2837The show was AMAZE-BALLS. It was so good. It was my first time seeing Eric Church, and he did not disappoint. He sang all my faves: Smoke A Little Smoke, Guys Like Me, Creepin’ and Lotta Boot Left to Fill.

I’ve seen Kenny Chesney a few times, and he’s fantastic. He puts on an awesome show – extremely entertaining. I never realize how many great songs he has until I see him in concert and know all the words to every song. He definitely could have performed for an extra hour or two.

So – after this weekend – I am able to say that it is officially SUMMERTIME.

Now go get yourself a drink and find some place nice outside to sit…

Thanks Champagne!

We love Champagne! Why? Because it’s perfect for some of our favorite celebrations: birthdays, weddings, engagement parties, promotions, bubbles, anniversaries and puttin’ on the ritz.

Here are some of our favorite champagne drinks:

  • Our favorite champagne drink is the brunch classic: Mimosa! Just mix your fave champagne (we’re poor so we drink Andre) and a splash of orange juice, ratio of 1:5.
  • A Bellini is the perfect summertime drink. Mix ripe peaches (or peach syrup) with champagne. Throw in some sugar for extra sweetness. I’m totally craving one of these right now…
  • An easy drink that looks fancy? Champagne Punch. Just cut up your favorite fruit – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries – and throw it in the champagne. This is perfect for a fun brunch!
  • This drink is based off my favorite shot – Liquid Cocaine. The champagne drink is made with 30 Ml of Vodka, 3/4 a glass of champagne and Redbull! Delicious.
  • And for a non-drinkable recipe: Champagne Cake. Two of my favorite things mixed in one. You can’t go wrong. All you need is a box of super moist strawberry cake mix, 1/3 cup vegetable oil, 3 egg whites and 1 1/4 cups of champagne. Mix together and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F. Add some additional champagne to your frosting for an extra special treat.

What’s your favorite champagne recipe?

Life Beyond Vodka

Vodka is clearly my drink of choice. However – during my recent 10 day drinking bender – I drank out of my comfort zone, enjoying beergaritas, Irish Coffees and a number of different wines. Here are some of my favorite new recipes that – gasp!! – don’t include vodka:

Beergaritas – Since I was too busy binge drinking this weekend to actually write a post leading up to Cinco De Mayo, a post-Cinco De Mayo post highlighting my favorite drink of the evening will have to suffice. To make this delicious concoction you mix:

  • 1 can of Limeade (we found it at Target)
  • 1 can of Sprite Zero
  • 1 can of tequila
  • 1 light beer

Sounds weird, but it’s super delicious. This will definitely be a must-have drink this summer

Irish Coffees – Not a huge fan of drinking coffee black or of whiskey, but the two together make a yummy drink.IMG_2539

  • Hot Coffee
  • 1 shot of Irish Whiskey
  • A cube of sugar
  • Topped with thick whipped cream

I only wish I could drink these coffees every morning…

WINE – I love wine. I’ve gotten a new appreciation for it, although I’m still really cheap, so you have to balance taste with cost. Three of my favorites:

  • Dancing Bull Red Zinfandel
  • Yellow Tail Sweet Red
  • Grgich Cabernet Sauvignon

The Grgich is a little more pricey, but it was really good!

It feels wrong to even talk about another liquor besides vodka on our blog, but what’s your fave non-vodka drink?

Just a Typical Wednesday Night…

Ever have one of those nights you just don’t want to be responsible?

Well, that was last night for us girls at Awkward Vodka. But that really wasn’t our intention at all. Our plan was to go for a walk – Happy (late) National Walking Day, friends – and then go check out the movie Spring Breakers. Sounds like a nice low-key night, right? We started the evening off with a walk – win! But after that is when things started to downward spiral… We has plans to meet our friend S over at Whole Foods to grab dinner at the salad bar because sometimes we pretend to be healthy. And they have the best salad bar in town, hands down.

Screen Shot 2013-04-04 at 10.02.40 AMWhile waiting for S, we decided to stop over at the Liquor store because… why not? It has been a long week and everyone deserves a glass of wine, especially after an intense walk around the lake.

Did you know they made wine juice boxes? They do! Introducing Bandit wine. Is it amazingly delicious? Mmm not really. It’s ok. But look how convenient? It looks just like that coconut water you can buy in mini boxes, but is way better because it’s alcoholic – duh. And guess what? Whole Foods sells that coconut water – so if we ended up bringing them with us to the store, no one would notice, right? Next think you know, we’re buying three of them and heading over to the salad bar.

After filling our salad containers to the brim, we sat in the eating area of grocery store surrounded by people, stealthily drinking our juice boxes and eating our yummy salads. See the awesome photo below documenting our delicious BYOB dinner? And please note the amazing Katniss braid in the background.

Screen Shot 2013-04-04 at 10.07.09 AMAfter slamming our “juice boxes” and salads, S realized she left her wallet at work. Our next planned course of action was to go play darts, so before that we had to stop back at the office pick up her forgotten wallet.

While there, we obviously had to leave notes and “really difficult” scavenger hunts for everyone with office supplies – you’re welcome, girls. We hung out for a bit before realizing this is the last place we want to be after work hours so we left…not before stealing some yummy candy from the candy jar and dropping off our spare change in the Monocle Fund of course!

The time was creeping closer to our normal 9:00 p.m. bedtime, but by now we were feeling rebellious so instead of darts, we went to check out a new bar in Uptown Minneapolis – Morrissey’s Irish Pub. I’m cautiously optimistic this place could be a new Cowboy Slims (RIP). My only concern is that it doesn’t seem like the type of place to place country music… However, they did have delicious Vodka Diet Cokes – YUM!

So takeaways from #WastedWednesday:

  • Buy Bandit wine. It tastes ok, is fairly cheap and can easily hide in your purse.
  • Avoid work after hours. It’s fun for about 5 minutes and then gets sad and boring.
  • If you live in the Minneapolis area, check out Morrissey’s Irish Pub in Uptown on Lake St.

Hope you also had a fabulous Wednesday evening!

An Open Letter to Day Drinking

Dear Day Drinking,

Why do you tempt me every weekend day I have no plans? Just because I don’t have something scheduled, doesn’t mean my time wouldn’t be better spent doing laundry, going grocery shopping, working out or cleaning my apartment. I could even do something fun like shopping or TV binging, but no – day drinking always wins.

The only thing worse than the guilt you come with is the eating. Why do you make me crave taco bell, pizza, McDonalds, bags of chips, popcorn, ice cream, etc.? Day drinking, I gave up pizza for Lent. Do you know what you made me do? Eat pizza.

I’m 25 years old. On Saturday mornings, my Facebook should be full of nothing. Or posts about being pregnant or getting married, but no, it’s full of evidence of you, Day Drinking. You. What self-respecting 25-year-old woman posts this on her Facebook page on a Saturday morning:

Screen Shot 2013-03-04 at 2.55.36 PM

So, Day Drinking, stop being such a tease. Leave me alone – get out of my life.

Why can’t I quit you?

Love Always,

Me ❤
